研究曾指出，「体脂肪过低、维生素D不足的年轻女性，会出现卵子数量减少的情况。」研究显示，日本20岁的女性体脂肪率平均只有22.6%，比正常女性（卵子数量没有减少的女性）数值低了4%，因此，研究者推论，年轻时过度减肥的女性，就可能成为将来不孕的因素。
